I joined the gym (True Fitness) in Pavillion KL for period of 12 months since 13-April-2010 (should end 13-May-2011). The gym closed in Nov-2010 to moved to a new location – Kenanga International Building KL. I went there on the first day they re-open (17-Jan-2011)in new location and found that it is no longer convenient for me to go there. I talked to the manager in charge Miss Fiona for termination of gym but she refused. She promised to call me back to settle thing out but never. Since that first day in the new gym, I have stopped going to it. However, they are charging me month after month even I have stop going there and verbally informed them on the first day they reopen. These charges continuos even after my membership is due. Then, I received a solicitor letter from them asking me to pay not only the remaining months of my outstanding memberships fees (as I stop going after they moved) but also month by month accumulated membership fee even after the end of my membership on 13-May-2011 and also their lawyer fees. They told me that I am not able to cancel my membership until all my outstanding was settle, otherwise the outstanding will accumulated month after month. This is unfair to consumer as they told me they will not relocate the gym when I joined. It is only within a few months and they moved, I think this information need to be disclosed to us for consideration. Also, it is not fair to add up months of membership fee and lawyer fee after the membership is ended to previous outstanding. In this case, consumer is completely not protected from this negative clause in their agreement as no matter who is moving (either member or the gym), the burden is always fall under the member. We as the consumer has no right to say no even if they move to further location and even it is no longer convenient for us. We sign up for 12 months to the gym at the moment we commit ourselves to the location the gym located. When the gym is move, they should give us the right to terminate our membership but this is not the case.. The right is always weight on them not us as a consumer!

    one thing am pist wif true fitness is that they want my credit card so badly….i gave them a debit card n infact they said debit cards are not valid but they took my cash for that month n ask me to signature a few documents n i joined….i thought everything was OK but now they are still chasing for my credit card and i dont have one!!! Do i need to get a credit card just because i wanna join the gym???? RIDICULOUS LIKE HELL!!!!! Do u think i can cancel my membership??? I heard Fitness first is still the best eventhough is pricy

    I am very sorry to hear your problem. You can cancel your membership but if you have commited yourself to certain period of the membership, you have to pay the remaining fee till your membership is dued. You see, this is the dirty trick they play. In the agreement that you signed, there have this small lines of agreement that you have to obey. They are wining in all side and as a consumer, we all lose. This is what I am upset about as the goverment should set rule not allowinging them to set this kind of rule that harm our right as consumer! Why that we can’t cancel our membership if we are not happy with their service? Why that we have to suck up to certain period of time and keep paying for the service or good that we are not going to use or unhappy with? For my case, When they move to a new, I only have 3 months membership left but they are so tricky not allow me to cancel my membership as they say I should pay all remaining even I don’t like the new location, I ended up pay about 5 months. What can I do? if I don’t pay it will ended up even more money have to pay later on. What you can do, you can file your case to the consumer right and when I talked to them, they told me they have received hundred of complaints about True fitness. Also, you can try Tribunnal, make a complaint to them if you have a case. Good luck:-)

    hai all, i am facing same issue right now. They keep charging me from march until now even i already fax letter to hold my membership coz am pregnant. And only just now someone from the True Fitness PJ mgt call me and even thread me to pay if not the case will handed to their lawyer.THE FUCK with their lawyer. Now i am thinking to complain to Tribunal. What will happen if i just ignore the lawyer letter as one of my friend facing same issue and she just ignore them and untill now after almost one year no action taken on her. Thinking to do the same..infact we do not use any of their service anymore..why we should pay for it??They get money fo free then..
